PREAMBLE
Subsequent to teaching and learning, Research is a crucial element of Higher Education Institutions (HEI) and plays a significant role in achieving the goals of these institutions. Furkating College (Autonomous) is a premier co-educational institute of Higher Education in the district of Golaghat, committed to promote a research culture among Faculty and students with teaching and learning environments that provide the highest level of security for the freedom of inquiry, opinion, expression, and publication. In order to fulfill the college’s vision and purposes, a research policy will help all learners develop their research skills even more. It aims to ensure that the college’s research endeavours adhere to all relevant guidelines and policies set forth by the affiliated Dibrugarh University and U.G.C., as well as to accepted standards and practices for the ethical and safe conduct of research.
OBJECTIVES OF THE RESEARCH POLICY
- To create and promote a scientific mood and scientific ability among the teachers and students of the college.
- Identifying and notifying researchers about relevant research opportunities announced by various academic, research, industry, or government organizations.
- To strengthen the institutional capacity for planning, budgeting, facilities, and resources for the smooth conduct of Research.
- To ensure quality, integrity, ethics in research and also to facilitate providing professional guidance, technical support, and recommendations for financial assistance
- Promotes socially relevant research and promotes interdisciplinary research.
- Identifying and creating connections, including signing MOUs, to build long-term partnerships with national and international non-governmental organizations, industry, research organizations, and local agencies. This will expand the range of research opportunities and funding options available to the college’s teachers and students.
- Encouraging and facilitating the publication of research work/projects in reputed academic journals or filing patent/IPR and also facilitating the presentation of the research work through academic events such as workshops/seminars/conferences.
- To felicitate the faculty with ‘Certificates of Appreciation’ for quality publications (Research papers, patents, and books), receiving awards/recognitions at state, national, and international levels by the authority.
THE RESEARCH COUNCIL
The Research Council of Furkating College (Autonomous) is a pivotal entity that oversees the research endeavours of the institution. It is constituted to scrutinize and approve the Departmental Board of Study’s recommendations on research programmes, to review the policy matters/Regulations pertaining to Ph.D Programme & to undertake necessary measures for the promotion of innovative, Industry-Academia research & Action Research by students and faculty members as well as to develop policy initiates to support it.

The Research Council consists of the following members:

- The Coordinator, Internal Quality Assurance Cell: Member
- Three Associate Professors/Assistant Professor (with Ph.D. degree): Members representing each Discipline to be nominated by the principal
- Three(03) Professors/Associate Professors as invited Members representing each discipline as Nominated by the Principal

TERM OF RESEARCH COUNCIL
The term of all the members of the Research Council shall be for three years from the date of appointment. The Chairperson has the authority to appoint the council’s invited members.
FUNCTIONS OF THE RESEARCH COUNCIL
The Research Council in the college plays a pivotal role in steering the research direction and upholding the standards of scholarly activities within the institution. Its functions are multifaceted and integral to fostering a vibrant research milieu:
- Developing Research Strategy: The council is responsible for formulating and updating the college’s research strategy, ensuring it is aligned with academic objectives and societal needs.
- Allocation of Resources: It oversees the distribution of funds, grants, and other resources, prioritizing projects and ensuring equitable access to research support.
- Ethics and Compliance: The council ensures that all research complies with ethical guidelines and regulatory requirements, safeguarding the integrity of the research process.
- Fostering Research Collaborations: It facilitates partnerships and collaborations with external research bodies, industries, and other educational institutions to enhance the quality and scope of research.
- Capacity Building: The council organizes workshops, seminars, and training programs to build the skills and knowledge of researchers within the college.
- Promotion of Research Culture: It encourages a research-driven culture by recognizing and rewarding outstanding research work and by motivating faculty and students to engage in research activities.
- Quality Assurance and Impact Assessment: The council monitors and assesses research projects to ensure they meet quality standards and achieve desired impacts.

The Research Advisory Committee (RAC) at Furkating College (Autonomous), Golaghat, is committed to cultivating a strong research culture across Arts, Humanities, Social Sciences and Sciences. It supports and guides faculty and students, promoting ethical, impactful and innovative scholarship. By offering strategic direction, facilitating funding and maintaining high research standards, the RAC enhances the quality of research across all disciplines.
