Department of English, Furkating College successfully organized a storytelling event Galpakatha on 28 September, 2019. The invited narrators were Atanu Bhattacharyya, a renowned Assamese poet, writer, an editor of the Assamese literary monthly Satsori and Mitali De, a famous Assamese singer. The programme started at 11 am after a short introduction of the narrators by Dr Debashis Baruah, HOD, Department of English. For the next two hours, the duo narrated stories from countries like India, France, Bangladesh etc, mixing them with hypnotising waves of beautiful music. With pin drop silence, an auditorium full of students, teachers and other guests listened to their stories. They cried and laughed with the characters, sighed at their follies and became one with their emotions throughout the journey of stories. After the event, Atanu Bhattacharyya and Mitali De inaugurated the wall-magazine of the Department of English, Spectrum, prepared by the students of the department. This edition of Spectrum has been subtitled as Fabric of Fables and fables all around the world have been chosen as the basic theme, keeping a relation with the main event Galpakatha.
